Gibson Dove

July 26, 2007

Has anyone ever seen this model of the Gibson Dove? This is the model I have.dove3 It’s an anniversary model from 95′. I have done lots of searching about it and always come up empty except for one band site that a person mentions that he has the same model. Actually, this is a photoshoped image I had to make from 2 different guitars since mine’s in storage and I couldn’t photograph it. The truss rod is the only thing I couldn’t get to, but mine says “DOVE”. It has gold Grover keystone tuners and I believe a Fishman amplification system.

These are the 2 pictures I used to create the image of mine, which is an accurate image.

So if anyone’s ever seen this model guitar or can tell me more about it (like anyone even sees this page), I’d appreciate any info you might have on it. Thanks.

My Telecaster Wishes update – part 2

July 3, 2007

I found another really cool one, over in West Chester, Pa., at JH Guitars. It’s a limited run Palo Escrito Tele and here’s what it says:

Palo Escrito is a endiginous wood to Mexico, often used on Mexican folk instruments. This unique guitar marries the historically revered local wood with the iconic Telecaster. This wood has very unique properties and it’s grain pattern and hue can vary drastically, so no 2 will be alike. A 60’s classic Tele with a bound solid Palo Escrito top.

This is a Mexican Tele going for $769 (list – $957). Here’s some pics:palo escrito mexican tele

mexican tele 4 back

You know I’m dying to hear this wood. (and it’s torturing me not being able to just buy it)

AND…..not that this is an option, BUT…..I came across a vintage 60’s Tele that looks allot like the red one in my initial post, and being that that one and these are 60’s based, I think it must be trying to tell me something. But here’s what they say about the vintage one over at Buffalo Bros, where it’s being offered for sale.

1969 Fender Telecaster With Factory Bigsby Vintage White: (VG) Beautifully aged white finish, Rosewood fingerboard on comfy “C” shape Maple neck, pearl dots, 3-ply white pickguard, Fender Bigsby tailpiece. Weighs in at 8.4 lbs. With non-original vintage Fender hard shell case, possibly for a Jazzmaster. $8500

Is THAT ALL? WoW, I’m sure glad people aren’t going apeshit over vintage guitars.

On to the pictures:

They did a pretty good job, as you can see, on modeling that red 60’s Tele after these 60’s ones with the Bigsby’s, but those slight differences bug me. Enough that the Bigsby can’t make up for it? I don’t know, don’t think so though, cuz I totally dig that Bigsby on a Tele look.

And on a side note to close out this post, I noticed they don’t put the “F” on the neckplate like they used to. I can see them not putting it on their foreign line, but the US made fenders don’t get them anymore, not even the Masterbuilt models. I would just like to see them again. I think it’s because it doesn’t feel like I’m looking at a Fender if it doesn’t have the “F” on their parts, including the saddles and tuners. So c’mon Fender, bring back the F’n “F”.

My First Telecaster Wishes

July 2, 2007

I’ve never owned a Tele. in 20 years of playing, but after reading about how versatile they are, that they can cover just about any style with ease, I’ve been thinking about what I’d like my first Tele to be, and here’s what I’ve come up with.

First I liked this one I saw in a catalog, from Sweetwater
Red Telecaster with Bigsby

This one is almost $900 and is crafted in Japan. I like the Bigsby® on it and feel that it must now be a requirement for my first Tele, but I feel I could do better for that kind of money.

**I should point out that a real Bigsby® runs anywhere from $120 to @ $300, is made of quality materials such as nickel or aluminum, and you can tell by the word “patent” as opposed to “licensed”. I don’t know, but I assume the one that comes on this Japanese Tele is a “licensed” Bigsby which are made of die-cast aluminum (then covered in chrome or gold), but maybe not.**

Then I come across one I like at the Harmony Central Electric Guitar Forum posted by “Ultradust”pink tele with bigsby

Here are the specs: MIM neck, TV Jones Filtertron Classic, Nocaster bridge p’up, Bigsby B5 kit, Custom two-piece double bound alder body from these guys: http://willowsguitar.com/bemarket/shop/index.php
Probably run me the same price if I put it together myself. But I do love that color, so that might be another requirement.

So then I see another color I dig over at the forum on a tele for sale by BlackHatHunter. It’s $745 and I kinda dig the color, but not as much as the pink. Here’s a pic seafoam green tele & specs: US Fender Tele refinished in seafoam green nitro. The pickups are from OC Duff, the neck is a Warmoth, the nut is an Earvana, and the tuners are Sperzels locking tuners.

I don’t know, I kinda like them all, but I’d definitely like a Bigsby. And so these are my initial inspirations for when I get my first Tele. I think my best option here would be to do the specs from the green one with the pink body with a Bigsby, that would be perfect. I don’t know when that’ll be just yet, I just know that I really want one (with a Bigsby). Let me know what you think.

Cool Ass Guitars….part 2. Burny/Fernandes Japan.

June 26, 2007

Man, I don’t know how hard it is to get these, because they don’t offer them here, only in Japan I guess, but I want that red 120MM. Fernandes/Burny make some cool ass guitars. Not for the traditionalist. Check out part of their lineup this year. These are part of their Musician line.

Buck Tick is a band with 2 guitarists that they must endorse, as they’re offering up a 20th anniversary mini set of their guitars too. They’re so cute, like the mini Fenders offered here in the states.

Elite: It’s funny because they offer an Elite and an Elite Flame Top, where here our Elite comes with a flame top. Weird huh?

Dave Kushner model: They offer theirs as “The Japan Premium” Dave Kushner model, and specs list it as having a maple top, where here, I’m not sure but I didn’t think they came with a 15mm maple top here. Info out there is confusing to me as to exactly what’s going on or not on top of the mahogany body on our version here in the states, but here’s how they list their specs for theirs:

  • NECK : Mahogany, 628mm-Scale, Set-Neck
  • FINGER BOARD : Rosewood, 22F., 250R
  • BODY : Maple 15mm + Mahogany 45mm
  • PICK UP : HPD-300, Seymour Duncan SH-11

  • FINGER BOARD : Ebony, 22F.,350R

  • BRIDGE : Schaller SFRT-2 (with Pitch-Shift Cavity)
  • FERNANDES SUSTAINER® 搭載 (LED付)

BACK BACK2

To round it out they also have the FR and the APG series which are ok. This FR-155S is the top of the line model in the FR series. They have lots more on their site if you wanna see them all. I wouldn’t mind grabbing a few of these if I had the money. I’m sure you could get them if you tried, but I’d imagine with shipping that it would be a bunch extra, but you’d be the only one with it that’s for sure. Let me know if you dig these as much as I do. See ya.

Cool Ass Guitars…

May 12, 2007

This is going to be a new feature here, where I post pictures of cool guitars I find online or in my forums.

Let’s start it off with this Vinnie Vincent Vee Jackson, found at Harmony Central’s forums, posted by AzCat. Enjoy!!

Vinnie Vincent Jackson V

Great, although not for me. I would never be caught dead playing a Vee, but I think they’re cool and enjoy seeing others play them. There are very few Vees that I think are cool, for example, some older Gibson Vees and some of the crazier Jackson Vees, especially the Roswell one, also posted by AzCat.

Roswell VeeBoy does this guy have some Cool Ass Guitars.
